Before you choose a venue for your eco-friendly wedding, you’ll probably have some questions for the venue’s staff. All of your green planning will be for naught if your venue throws your recyclables in a landfill! There is a lot to think about and with everything you have on your mind, including your wedding budget, coming up with comprehensive questions may not be at the top of your list. Here are a few to get you started.
Midnight Snacks: Organic Treats to Keep the Party Going
My favorite part of my wedding was the late night party. After so many months of planning, greeting my friends and family, getting all fancied up, crying my eyes out, and taking millions of pictures, it felt so good to let loose and dance! (A word of advice: ditch the stilettos!) We booked our venue until three in the morning. We knew it would be impossible to stop once we really got rolling. We also knew we’d need some snacks as the night wore on. By one in the morning it had been five hours since dinner and our guests were ravenous. We’d also been drinking with abandon for several hours and desperately needed a little sobering up. I opted for starchy, greasy late night snacks, true to my hard partying college days. We still kept everything local and organic but comfort food was the key to pure satisfaction.
—Using EarthDay.Org’s Footprint Calculator we conducted a conservative consumption simulation based on the average information collected from family members, friends and neighbors. The results provided an ecologic footprint with the following conclusions:
◊ If everyone lived like we do, we’d need 4.4 Planet Earths to provide enough resources.
◊ To support this lifestyle, it takes 19.7 global acres of Earth’s productive acres (858,132square feet) per person.
